The Frozen Shoulder
Do you know someone who complains of a very stiff shoulder - they may have a Frozen Shoulder?
This must be differentiated from the 'cold shoulder' which may benefit more from NLP Coaching, whereas the Frozen Shoulder benefits from osteopathy!
A classical frozen shoulder usually has stiffness in all ranges of movement. It is very painful at the end of the range of movement, such that moving beyond the comfort range makes you 'wince' with pain. Normally the pain becomes more noticable when moving the arm above shoulder height. Putting the affected arm behind the neck or lower back to the waist are usually the most tricky movements.
It is normally caused by a wrenching or sudden movement although repeated minor movements can bring it on also. The strain to the joint causes internal bruising and this then causes the joint folds to 'glue up'. The medical name is adhesive capsulitis - gluing of the joint capsule.
If you think you may have this condition then the exercises section of the website contains help specifically for frozen shoulder. If not sure if your condition is a frozen shoulder you should book for a proper diagnosis.
