Do you suffer from headaches or
migraine?
What is a migraine headache?
A migraine headache is a severe pain felt on one, and sometimes, both sides of the head. The pain is mostly in the front around the temples or behind one eye or ear. Besides pain, you may have nausea and vomiting, and be very sensitive to light and sound. Migraine can occur any time of the day, though it often starts in the morning. The pain can last a few hours or up to one or two days. Who gets migraines?
Migraine headaches affect about 15 percent of adults. They tend to run in families, and are about twice as common in women than men. Migraines also affect around four percent of children, but they are most common in adults aged between 20 and 50.Relief: there are non prescription and prescription only medications for migraine sufferers these can have some side effects. These for example are the known side effects of migraine specific drugs:

· tingling of the limbs
· a feeling of heaviness or weakness

· nausea

The osteopathic approach which I recommend utilises an understanding of the physical strains and tensions of the bones of the skull and their motion (or perhaps more significantly their lack of motion).
In health all the many separate bones of the head (it is not a solid bony box) should be subtly and gently moving very very slowly in a rhythmical fashion. This is called the ‘cranial rhythm’.
Cranial Osteopathy is a complex and advanced form of osteopathy which gives a great understanding to the physiology of skull tissue motion, and its relevance for health of the mind and body. From this perspective it is a powerful approach to the treatment of migraine/headaches.
If you know of a migraine sufferer and they would like to know more about the benefit of the cranial osteopathy approach to this condition, they are welcome to phone me to discuss their symptoms.
